Crude oil imports to Italy from former Soviet Union countries 1990-2023
In 2023, Italy imported approximately 18 million tons of crude oil from former Soviet Union countries, namely Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. The volume of crude oil imports to Italy from this region experienced a sharp increase after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Starting at 6.2 million tons as of 1990, the import volume peaked at 25.9 million tons in 2010. While around half of this volume came from Russia in 2022, Russia did not import oil to Italy in 2023.
