Number of detected fossil fuel thefts in Mexico 2022, by state
In 2022, Hidalgo was by far the Mexican state with the highest number of cases of fossil fuel theft from pipelines, with over 5,500 detected occurrences. This represented an average of one case every two hours, and more than 48 percent of cases detected in Mexico that year. The state of Mexico ranked second, with 1,590 occurrences, followed by Puebla with 757 occurrences. Overall, there were more than 11 thousand fossil fuel theft cases reported in Mexico that year.
