Number of check (cheque) payments in Egypt 2009-2024
The volume of checks (cheques) cleared for payments in Egypt stood at roughly 10.2 million in 2023. In the first quarter of 2024, almost 2.6 million checks were paid out. During the observed period, the number of written checks peaked in 2015, while it was lowest in 2020, at nearly 13.6 and 9.9 million, respectively.
In 2023, check transactions amounted to 2.78 trillion Egyptian pounds (57.3 billion U.S. dollars). The value stood at over 850 billion Egyptian pounds (17.5 billion U.S. dollars) in the first quarter of 2024.
