Number of new challenger banks worldwide 2014-2022
Challenger banks have been increasing in popularity and have been growing in number in recent years. As the graph shows, the number of challenger banks launches has grown year-on-year until 2020. In 2021 and 2022, while the number of challenger banks still increased, the pace of increase slowed down. In 2022, 56 new challenger banks were launched, three less than in the previous year.
