In professional sports, participants receive payment for their performance in contrast to amateur sports. As professional sports become more popular, larger audiences are drawn to them. Consequently, participants, teams, and sports organizations can profit from sporting events.In terms of frequency, three in 10 Poles watch professional sports competitions up to a few times per week. Regarding sporting event sponsors, the Polish oil and petrol retailer PKN Orlen was the most recognized in the country in 2021, followed by sports shoe brands Adidas and Nike.
National football team and the UEFA 2020 performance
Initially postponed in 2020 because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the UEFA European Championships took place in June and July 2021. One of the teams that participated in the event was Poland. However, having lost to Sweden on Jun 23, 2021, Poland had left the competition. When asked to assess the national team's performance, Robert Lewandowski, the team's captain, left the best impression according to the respondents; Grzegorz Krychowiak, Poland's defensive midfielder, was considered to have played the worst.Lewandowski is an all-time leader in goals scored for the Polish national football team, with 74 goals. Włodzimierz Lubański follows the team captain with 44 goals who has long since retired from his career with the national team back in 1980. Lewandowski is also the most valuable player in the Polish squad, with an approximately 45 million euros market value as of July 2022.
