Unemployed population largest in the South Holland province
In addition to having the lowest unemployment rate, Zeeland was also the province with the fewest number of unemployed people. A recent estimate by the same source puts the unemployed population in Zeeland at roughly 5,000 in 2019. The province South Holland was estimated to have the largest number of unemployed that year, at approximately 75,000 – or 15 times as many as Zeeland.
Benelux comparison
Of the three Benelux countries, the Netherlands had the lowest unemployment rate. By comparison, in 2017 Belgium’s unemployment rate reached just over seven percent. In Luxembourg, unemployment was 5.5 percent that year.
