Share of informal employment in Africa 2023, by country
Informal employment varied significantly across African countries. In 2021, around 98.4 percent of Niger's working population was employed informally. Undeclared work accounted for over 90 percent of the total employment in 14 other African nations between 2019 and 2023. On the other hand, Seychelles had the lowest share on the African continent working informally at almost 17 percent during the same years.
