Proximity and e-commerce card payments: payment number estimation in France for 2025

With the sanitary crisis provoked by the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus all over the world, the necessity for contactless payments as well as online payments has risen. With advantages of mobile payments though mobile wallets (smartphone applications) or e-wallets (can be used on a mobile phone or desktop), for which the number of transactions are expected to reach 4.2 billions in 2025, other methods such as proximity card payments, mobile and in-app payments, desktop e-commerce payments, and contactless proximity card payments are expected to rise as well. Thus, in 2018 the estimated number e-commerce and proximity payments by card lied at around 12.6 billion, and is expected to reach 17.73 billion payments in 2025.
