In 2018, approximately 784 million British pounds were spent in the United Kingdom (UK) on health research focusing on etiology, which explores the causes and development of diseases. A further 555 million pounds were spent in the 'underpinning' research activity group, which is defined as focusing on and attempting to understand biological, psychological and socioeconomic processes.
