UTZ (formerly UTZ Certified) and the Rainforest Alliance merged in 2018. As a result, the Rainforest Alliance has now two different programs that certify goods and services that meet certain social, environmental, and economical sustainability standards. It is planned that in 2020 these two programs will come together to form one. In 2018, production of cocoa certified by this non-governmental organization in Latin America attained a volume of more than 199 thousand metric tons. UTZ certification accounted for nearly 74 percent of certified cocoa production from the Rainforest Alliance organization in the region.
