Norwegian fishery industry
Throughout history, fishery has been a major industry in Norway. The country benefits from its long coastline with sea beds and fjords. All along this coastline, especially salmon farming is very common. It is the number one farmed animal in Norway, reaching a sales volume of roughly 1.2 million metric tons of salmon in 2017.
International trade
As one of the largest exporting countries of fish, the export value of fish and seafood increased strongly in the previous years. In 2017, the export value from Norwegian fisheries and aquaculture reached roughly 95 billion Norwegian kroner. By comparison, the import value of fresh or frozen fish imported into the country was significantly lower, amounting to almost 2.3 billion Norwegian kroner.
