Cinema screens in Europe 2013-2018
Between 2013 and 2018, the number of cinema screens across Europe increased by almost two thousand screens. France, Italy and Germany had the highest numbers of cinema screens across Europe, with Irish film fans making the most cinema visits per capita. Total admissions in Europe amounted to over 980 million in 2017.
Cinema revenues
In 2017, box office revenues for EU 28 countries fell by 16 million euros from the previous year. In several countries revenues increased from the previous year including the UK, Russia and Germany. France and Italy on the other hand saw revenues fall between 2016 and 2017.
Most successful films
In 2017, the Christopher Nolan film, Dunkirk saw the highest number of admissions in Europe. This was followed by Kingsman: The Golden Circle with almost 12 million admissions and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets with almost 11.5 million admissions across European cinemas. Between them, the top 20 films for admissions in Europe saw nearly 133 million cinema goers.
