A July 2020 survey revealed that 24 percent of online adults in the United States were more likely to use TikTok after learning that TikTok was taking action by committing over 250 million U.S. dollars to support communities that have been affected during the outbreak of coronavirus. In contrast, 29 percent of respondents stated that they were less likely to use the social video app after hearing that United States government was looking at banning TikTok and other Chinese social media apps. TikTok is owned by Bytedance, a a Beijing-based online technology company.
